On Friday, May 10th, 2024, the world said goodbye to a remarkable soul as Nancy Bowles peacefully passed away at the age of 85. Born on February 5th, 1939, in Salem, Indiana, Nancy was the beloved daughter of James and Elaine Colwell.
Nancy's life was infused with a deep love for music and performing arts. Her passion for operatic arias blossomed during her time studying voice at the Louisville Conservatory of Music. A witty and intelligent individual, she furthered her education at Spencerian Business School in Louisville, Kentucky, focusing on accounting.
After tying the knot with her husband and relocating to Georgia, Nancy's professional journey led her to Emory University. Starting as a medical secretary in the Pathology department's administration offices, she eventually rose to the role of Operations Manager at the Emory International Clinic - Center for Japanese Care. Her work involved coordinating Health Care Symposia between the U.S. and Japan, showcasing her dedication to international collaboration.
In her semi-retirement years in St. Augustine, Florida, Nancy honed her skills working at the St. Augustine Record while indulging in her love for quilting. Later settling in San Mateo, Florida alongside her brother and a plethora of cherished feline companions, she found solace in the warmth of her neighbors' care and companionship.
Nancy is survived by her loving sister Barbara, her two devoted daughters, five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She leaves behind a legacy of beautifully crafted quilts, unwavering political beliefs, and a sharp sense of humor that will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Though she may have departed this world physically, Nancy will forever reside in our hearts as a beacon of love and strength.
